Story:With a kind heart and a naturally good nature, Ye Xi might have been a model young lady, had it not been for her lofty dreams and idealistic aspirations. Wanting with all her heart to become one of her generation's greatest and most heroic martial artists, Ye Xi has done everything she could to make her dreams come true. Little does she realize that the road to becoming a hero is often plagued by a never-ending string of trials and tribulations. Completely unaware of the fact that the human heart often harbors a sinister side, Ye Xi is shocked when her efforts to help the weak are met with darkness and deceit. Used, lied to, and betrayed by those around her, Ye Xi soon finds her reputation in shambles and her life in jeopardy. Surprisingly enough, even after these relentless attacks on her character and even her life, Ye Xi refuses to give up on her belief that justice naturally inhabits the hearts of people; a belief that only grows stronger after she meets a divine doctor by the name of Bai Yue. With Bai Yue's help, Ye Xi finds a way to overcome her trials, learning invaluable lessons about life, love, and the true spirit of martial arts. But will these lessons be enough to help them eradicate the scum who continue to bring harm to Ye Xi and her people? And will love follow for this idealistic duo?

 

 

Review/Rant

I both loved and disliked the drama at the same time. It's a weird feeling. The main male lead is one of my favorites, so when I found the drama, I was excited. Going into it, I loved the strong female lead, but then things got complicated. The female lead was sometimes hard to like, and I would get a little annoyed by her overall behavior and blind faith, but I understood why she was portrayed that way due to her story. AHHHHHH, I wanted to pull my hair out. On the other hand, she was both strong and weak in a very relatable way. At first glance, you think she is an untouchable character, but with her overall power, she was weak due to her outlook and trust. I loved how they did not simply make someone max level in a way and have no flaws or weakness. I do think she grew as a person slowly, but she did keep a lot of her bright kindness as well.

Now moving on to the other leads (boy, where do I start?), Tang Yang had zero redeeming parts. He was all self and I found it hard for anyone not to see he was an a**. Thankful he is not a massive part, so I did not have to suffer long. Nope, that's a lie. Please bring in Cang Nan, a cute thing to look at, but the moment he showed up, I had a bad taste in my mouth and I did not go. He was all about himself and would do anything to get it. By this point, I was ready to send out the female lead to some sort of "How to spot a bad guy" rehabilitation group or something when Tang Huan busts in. "Fool me once, shame on her. Fool me 80 times, I need some sort of support group and medication or something." He is like Bad guy 1 and bad guy 2 had an even shadier bad guy 3 child that made me want to stick all of them in a building and set it on fire!! But even when a little hope walked in, Cang Qi, now I was excited. He would be the 2nd male lead to make me sway, but nope. He clearly is a few steps away from locking the female lead in the basement while telling her he loves her and he is the best person for her. In fact, anyone that steamrolls someone saying they love you but disregarding how you feel does not love you at all. If someone really loves you, as long as you are happy, they won't turn into some crazy person that all but disregards your feelings because HE CAN MAKE YOU LOVE HIM!! Yep, that sounds totally healthy! Anyway, the redeeming factors: the male lead, cold as he was, does everything in his power to not be like anyone else. He does not force or become toxic to get what he wants and does his best to be a good man, even if it hurts.

With all the crazy stuff apart, I liked the fact the female lead was strong and yet kind. That once she started to see, she did not fall back into becoming blind to others' behavior. While I can't give the drama 10 stars (not happening), I can say 8 stars: an interesting story and fun at times.

Mommy's Counterattack (2023) review/rant spoiler warning 4/10 stars

      Zhao Yi Bo Jiang Ling Main Role     Li Bo Yang Yun Qing Qing/ Rou Rou Main Role   Story: Five years ago, Yun and Jiang Ling separated due to infidelity and death of their child. Yun is forced to leave the country. Five years later, after becoming a top model and well-known fashion designer, she returns to get her revenge and infiltrates Jiang's house as a nanny. Rest of the story is how she gets her revenge, proves her innocence and solves the misunderstanding between husband and wife. Review/Rant :   This has to be one of the shortest dramas I've watched, honestly 16 episodes at about 13 to 15 minutes, so it's about the length of a movie. I am more than grateful for the shortness of the whole drama, honestly. No one but the child has any redeeming qualities in my opinion. The ML was unlikable and wishy-washy in his character.
